    Description

    You are bidding on original Napoleon SARONY cabinet card (4" x 6-1/4") of pianist, JOSEF HOFMANN (1876-1957) with laced collar.
    SARONY (1821-1896) was a New York photographer, 37 Union Square, N.Y.
    There is a 1-3/4" partial crease in top right hand corner which is just on front of CDV.
    The copyright date on card is 1887; Hofmann would have been 11 years old at the time.
    Written on reverse is "Polish Amer. Pianist-child prodigy; Made debut in 1887 At Metropolitan Opera House"
    Cabinet card is otherwise in Very Fine condition.
    HOFMANN was the first Director of the Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia; Rachmaninoff dedicated his Piano Concerto No 3 to Hofmann.
    Among his students were Cherkassy, Slenczynski, W. Susskind, Teresa Tagliapietra.
