    Description

    Cage, John. (1912–1992)
"Treating Sounds with Respect" - Press Photograph
Press photograph of the influential composer pouring a bucket of water over a box of large shells to create a musical effect. Crop marks to the margin; overall in very fine condition. 8 x 10 inches (20.2 x 25.5 cm).
Cage's preparations are evidently for his 1977 work
    Inlets,
for three players of water-filled conch shells and one conch-player using circular breathing and the sound of fire. The work was originally used for Merce Cunningham's choreographed work
    Inlets
, and again in 1983 for
    Inlets 2.
