This machine is essentially a 5 hp, 1 1/4" horizontal spindle shaper with the spindle traveling vertically on ways. Haunching is often the only way to make certain cuts in the middle of a length of stock; such as the notches in the bottom of a pallet. We used it to notch stiles, rails and muntins for historic windows as well as create "stile lugs" on the bottom of the top sash of a double hung windows (see photos).
