    Description

Original and unusual Charles Bergamasco 5" x 7" cabinet photograph of the Second Swedish Nightingale as Marguerite in "Faust" at the Imperial opera at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.
Nilsson (1843-1921) is considered the Second Swedish Nightingale after Jenny Lind.  This image would be either from 1872, or 1875 the two seasons she sung in St. Petersburg.  She spent 1873-1874 in the United States and then returned to the United States in 1882 when she opened the then brand new Metropolitan Opera in their opening performance, which happened to be "Faust".
While there are photographs of Nilsson costumed as Marguerite, this specific image is extremely scarce and the condition is close to perfection!
